The Mission of the “Women of the Word” ministry of the Church at Horseshoe Bay is: to glorify God by encouraging women in the Lord and reaching out with the love of God. We seek to equip our women through projects of Christian education and spiritual renewal, outreach and benevolent ministries, and fellowship with one another.
The WOW Committee meets at 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall on the second Tuesday of every month (except April and there will be no meeting in August) and all Women of the Church are welcome to attend.
The WOW Committee coordinates and plans all of the activities and projects of this Ministry. These include such things as benevolent projects, luncheons, retreats, and special entertainment or speaker engagements. This Ministry intends to grow in scope in the future. Any woman of The Church at Horseshoe Bay who is interested in joining the WOW Committee is welcome to do so by contacting any Committee member or by just coming to any scheduled meeting shown on the WOW calendar of events.
Rachel Norris Featured at Women of the Word Spring Brunch on April 27, 2023
The Women of the Word (WOW) at The Church of Horseshoe Bay will be holding their Spring Brunch on Thursday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. to noon with Rachel Norris as the featured speaker. The brunch will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall at 600 Hi Ridge Road, Horseshoe Bay. Women from across the Highland Lakes area are invited to attend and bring a friend. The brunch will be an opportunity for women in the area to grow deeper in their Christian faith and feel the support of other women.
Tickets for the brunch are $25.00 and available online at church-hsb.org, or by calling the church office at 830-598-8390. A catered brunch by Choccolatte’s of Marble Falls will be served. Women are asked to purchase their ticket by April 15 to allow the WOW committee to plan for food.
Rachel Norris is a special speaker with a unique way of sharing her impactful testimony. Rachel was born in Hong Kong to missionary parents where she stayed until finishing High School in 1979. Rachel came to the United States for college, which included changing her major in 1982 to a fine arts degree working with clay and eventually receiving a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas in Denton. She has been making pottery ever since, and she has been sharing her out-of-the-ordinary, bumpy-road life journey in the context of a potter since 1992. She shares her Christian walk in an informal, easy-to-understand style that brings important life lessons to the audience.
According to Rachel, “I am not surprised that I am a potter, but I am amazed at how God has used pottery in my life.” She loves to work with clay because it is an incredibly versatile material, so very individual and universal at the same time. She and her husband, Bob Norris, own Joy Pottery in Bryan, Texas, which is built on the land her mother grew up on. They make and sell handmade, functional, stoneware along with teaching others the craft of being a potter. Rachel and Bob have two children, David, and Anna.
Women across the area are invited to attend the WOW brunch and discover the richness of the layers of meaning in the portrayal of the potter and the clay in the Scriptures by observing the work of a potter firsthand. The audience will be inspired by the insights into the hand of God through this experience. For additional information and to purchase a ticket, please visit church-hsb.org, or call the church office at 830-598-8390, or tickets can be purchased in the church’s narthex after Sunday worship services on March 26 or April 9, 16, or 23.
